Organization using HealthClips now include the American Heart Association and Independence BlueCross. Check out our feature story on how HealthClips is dramatically impacting the quality of care at The Indiana Heart Hospital.
Asthma

According to National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute Director, Elizabeth Nabel, “Asthma is one of the most common health problems in the US and it can significantly affect patients’ lives at school, at work, at play, and at home.” With this in mind, Asthma Self-Management: A Home Video Guide is now available and covers:
- Benefits of Self Management
- Asthma Medications
- Controlling Your Triggers
- Monitoring Your Asthma
- Keys to Self-Management
“One of our main goals was for patients to understand when they are at greater risk for an asthma attack so they can head it off before it happens,” says producer Lee Ricketts. “With the DVD format, viewers can access relevant sections very quickly such as information on a new inhaler or ways to combat a new trigger.” See Home Video Discounts below for ways to save.
Diabetes

Gestational Diabetes uses DVD technology to provide a more personal learning experience. According to producer Carrie Beaudoin, “A patient can select a chapter based on their situation. If their medication is dispensed with a pen, they don’t need to view the demo on using a syringe. Or if they are concerned about monitoring, they can watch a more in-depth segment instead of the overview.”
An alternate version of the program includes 25 minutes of bonus footage covering monitoring, medication injection, and treating hypoglycemia.
Newborn Care

Milner-Fenwick has updated two programs for new mothers. One focuses on the needs of the infant and the other on the needs of the mother. Newborn Care updates periodic breathing umbilical cord care, breastfeeding guidelines, tummy time, using a rectal thermometer and car seat safety. Postpartum Care helps new mothers make the transition from pregnancy to motherhood. It includes revised information on after pains, when to call your doctor, hemorrhoids, baby blues, nutrition and physical activity.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that mothers nurse for 6 months exclusively and continue breastfeeding through the first year and beyond. In support of these guidelines, Establishing Your Breastfeeding Relationship helps new moms establish a successful nursing relationship with their newborn. It focuses on techniques like latching on, removal, common holding positions, and feeding on demand. It also explains how a lactation consultant can help from the beginning and provide support to overcome common challenges like engorgement.
Heart Disease

Heart disease is the #1 cause of death among American women, but many people still think of it as a man’s disease. Women and Heart Disease was developed to raise awareness and help women recognize symptoms that can differ from those associated with men. The program calls attention to higher risk for African American, Hispanic women, and smokers. It also provides suggestions for lifestyle changes for risk factor reduction.
What is Coronary Artery Disease presents the risks and possible treatments of CAD including medications, angioplasty, and bypass surgery. Producer Lee Ricketts explains, “It’s important for people to be diagnosed and treated before CAD becomes serious enough to cause a heart attack, stroke, or heart failure. This program provides that awareness.” Related program, Secondary Prevention of Heart Disease, reviews the major HD risk factors. With that backdrop, it covers lifestyle changes to prevent or slow down the progression of heart disease.
Participating in a cardiac rehab program can be an important factor in recovery. To help patients learn more about it, Cardiac Rehabilitation: Training Your Heart For Life has been released. Producer Carrie Beaudoin says, “This program helps patients regain their confidence after a heart event. We wanted patients to know that cardiac rehabilitation is a support system that provides resources and an opportunity to share experiences with others also in recovery.”
