Online links for health educators and clinicians

NIDDK logo

The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) conducts and supports basic and clinical research on many of the most serious diseases affecting public health. They also provide a wealth of free educational resources covering diabetes, kidney and urologic diseases, liver disease, nutrition, and weight control. Health information is organized into A-Z lists and Spanish versions are included for many topics. There are also "Easy-to-read" versions.

Educational resources include interactive quizzes, streaming videos, streaming audio, podcasts, and patient tutorials. Free hard copies of online information for diabetes, digestive diseases, and kidney and urologic diseases are available in bulk for patient care settings at this link, NIDDK Clearinghouses Publications Catalog.

Children with Diabetes logo

Children with Diabetes is a website that offers an online community to kids and their families. It includes chat rooms, forums, , care suggestions, school issues, and information on conferences. There are countless links to topics like camps, poetry, art, humor, scholarships, athletes with diabetes, and even grandparents.

One great feature is Kids Voices. This section has hundreds of home pages created by kids (listed by name, age, and country). Each child briefly tells their own story and personalizes it with a photo of themselves. They also list their email address to give other children an opportunity to connect with them.

CancerCare is a national non-profit organization founded in 1944 that provides professional support services to anyone affected by cancer. This organization provides individual help to more than 100,000 people annually in addition to getting more than 1 million visits to their website. Services provided by professional oncology social workers are completely free of charge. At the home page, visitors can find the resources they’re looking for by clicking on one of three tabs: I am a person with cancer, I am a loved one/friend/, I am a healthcare professional. CancerCare can also be reached by calling (800) 813-HOPE.
